Our Mission statement

Kunsthaus Baurs Park sees itself as a place for art, encounters, and open dialogue. It is an integral part of the neighbourhood and of the city of Hamburg. We aim to create a space where people from different backgrounds, with different experiences and views, can come together with curiosity and respect, in the knowledge that cultural venues remain vibrant only if they embrace diversity and act responsibly.

Values and principles

We are guided by the Basic Law of the Federal Republic of Germany, in particular respect for human dignity, freedom of expression, and the spirit of tolerance and openness. We do not follow any particular ideology or political agenda. What guides us is the desire for reasonable, fair, and humane coexistence.

Mutual respect

We expect everyone who visits the Kunsthaus or works with us to show act respectfully. Different perspectives are part and parcel of an open society, as is the willingness to listen to one another. However, this openness ends when people are belittled, intimidated, or harmed. The Kunsthaus will not tolerate discriminatory, aggressive, or abusive behaviour. In day-to-day operations, this means being considerate of other visitors, treating staff with respect, and behaving mindfully towards the premises, the artworks and the immediate surroundings.

As hosts, we also feel a sense of responsibility towards our local community. Our events and activities are designed to respect public spaces and to not disrupt life in the local area.

Responsibility within the team

Staff, contractors, and partners of the Kunsthaus bear a special responsibility. They act on behalf of the institution and are expected to keep personal opinions separate from their professional roles, to use resources carefully, and to disclose any potential conflicts of interest. Collaboration with artists, sponsors, and partners is based on trust, fairness, and transparency.

An essential part of this responsibility is the protection of sensitive information. Concepts, strategies, plans, and details regarding sponsors, partners, or internal processes must be treated as confidential. The same applies to personal data and intellectual property.

Dealing with conflicts

Conflicts cannot always be avoided. We encourage addressing disagreements at an early stage and seeking dialogue. Our aim is to resolve situations with respect. In the event of serious or repeated breaches of these principles, we reserve the right to take action in accordance with our house rules or to terminate the collaboration.

An invitation to adopt a shared attitude

This text is not intended as a rigid set of rules, but rather as an invitation to adopt a shared approach. The Kunsthaus aims to be a liberal space – open to new ideas, diverse voices, and artistic experimentation – whilst simultaneously being guided by the simple principle that freedom can only endure where it is accompanied by mutual respect and responsibility.
